Tromsø Seafront is a plan and development strategy for the underdeveloped and historically mismanaged area between Stakkevollvegen and the Tromsøysundet channel. The landowners have established a community interest organisation with membership based on ownership share, and will cooperate with planning authorities in a partnership model. The area is over two kilometers long, bordering the city centre to the south and the University of Tromsø to the north; its width varies between 100 to 300 meters from Stakkevollvegen to the shoreline. The size of the area prescribes a completion horizon of up to 20 years and requires a well-considered, robust and flexible plan. Tromsø Seafront intends to attract public and commercial companies that support Tromsø’s position as a bridge to national and international activity in the Arctic.
